Applause!

We would like thank the honourable men and women of the Majlis for favouring the withdrawal of the reservation that Maldives have placed on Article 7(a) of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women.

Once we got over the initial shock we were extremely happy. Elated. Ecstatic.
And more importantly we are stoked that Dr. Afraashim quite kindly pointed out that some scholars do believe that it is not against the religion for women being heads of state. Heck, even the music banning, child marriage promoting, distinguishedly turban and robe wearing Bilal Philips said its ok to have a woman as leader of the country. However, he warned against it and stated that its not all that advisable to do so.

Actually we perfectly understand! Who is their right might would want to elect a half wit as a president. There will be absolute chaos I tell you! The government will be mismanaged, rule of law will not be upheld, the rate of crime will rise, the economy will deteriorate, governance will be weak, no one will know what they're doing, people will start worshipping strange gods like Fuel Supply Maldives, no one will observe even the smallest rules like stopping your vehicle at a zebra crossing, education system will be weak and health facilities mismanaged, there'll be no confidence in the legal system, and the people'll have complete dissatisfaction with the leadership and they'll be protesting every other day!!!

No, we absolutely CANNOT have that in this country, no way!

But anyway, it was very kind of the Majlis, and we hope that the conditions change for the remaining reservation to be removed as well. We have faith in the Majlis. No, really. Yes.
